Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is a modern, minimally invasive approach to professional dental cleaning. By identifying and removing dental biofilm precisely, GBT helps keep your teeth and gums healthier while making your cleaning experience more comfortable.
A cleaner smile starts with healthy gums
Professional dental cleaning has come a long way. At Dutch Dentist Dubai, we use Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) as a modern approach to professional oral hygiene, focusing on what matters most: removing dental biofilm effectively while preserving your natural teeth and gums.
But what exactly is biofilm?
Biofilm is the sticky layer of bacteria that constantly forms on your teeth. It can be difficult to see, even when your teeth look clean. If it remains on the teeth, it can contribute to tooth decay, gingivitis and periodontal disease.
GBT makes this invisible problem visible.
GBT follows a structured, personalised protocol rather than using the same cleaning approach for every patient.
1. Assess
We first assess your teeth, gums and overall oral health to understand your individual needs.
2. Disclose
A special disclosing solution is applied to the teeth. It colours the dental biofilm, making it clearly visible. This allows both you and your dentist or hygienist to see exactly where biofilm is present.
3. Motivate
Seeing the biofilm can also help you understand where you may need to improve your brushing or interdental cleaning at home. It turns oral hygiene into something visual and easy to understand.
4. AIRFLOW®
A controlled stream of warm water, air and fine powder is used to gently remove biofilm and stains from the teeth, around the gumline and in areas that are difficult to reach with conventional instruments.
5. PIEZON®
Where necessary, gentle ultrasonic technology is used to remove remaining calculus (tartar) while respecting the surrounding tooth structure and soft tissues.
6. Check
The teeth are checked again to ensure the biofilm and calculus have been thoroughly removed.
7. Recall
Based on your oral health and individual risk factors, we recommend an appropriate maintenance schedule to help keep your teeth and gums healthy.
GBT is designed around prevention, precision and patient comfort.
It can help to:
For many patients, the experience feels noticeably gentler than traditional scaling alone.
We believe professional hygiene should be about more than simply making your teeth feel smooth.
GBT is a preventive approach to oral health. By identifying biofilm and understanding where it accumulates, we can tailor your treatment to your individual needs and help you maintain healthier teeth and gums between appointments.
It is particularly useful for patients with gingivitis, periodontal disease, orthodontic appliances, dental implants, crowns, bridges or veneers, as well as anyone who wants to take a more proactive approach to their oral health.
Your mouth is unique, so your hygiene treatment should be too. Guided Biofilm Therapy allows us to work systematically and precisely, using modern technology to make professional cleaning as effective and comfortable as possible.
Healthy teeth start with healthy gums and healthy gums start with controlling biofilm.
